Kings abandon the baby
in the straw to play catch
with a cigar box painted gold.
 
At eight o’clock the players
reassemble with nine-volt halos
and a fiber-filled lamb.
Statues breathing frost,
they encircle the star of the show
fastened to a manger--
the only actor cast in plaster.
The one that seems to come alive
if you watch him long enough.
